In 2015,during Durga Puja I am planning to visit Mayapur,Isckon with some of my friends. In this blog I am trying to share you about my experience.

As you might be knowing that Mayapur is standing at the junction of river Ganga and Jalangi.Mayapur is a  city with lovely views and plenty of temples.

Mayapur is a popular Vaishnavite pilgrim centre founded by Bhakti saint Vinod Thakur. It is believed that Lord Krishna's incarnate Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was born here in 1486 AD. Mayapur is famous for Chandrodaya Temple (first temple established by ISKCON in Mayapur), Samadhi of Prabhupada (temple dedicated to the founder of ISKCON), Shree Chaitanyamath (the birth place of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu), Goswami Maharaj Temple of Dashavatar and Chand Kazi's Samadhi. Located on the banks of confluence of Hooghly river and Jalangi, Mayapur is a religious centre and one of the nine dhams of the 9 holy islands. During Covid-19 situation,authorities are welcoming all visitors by taking necessary precautions, the Director of International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), Mayapur, Sri Madhava Gauranga Das, told PTI from the global headquarters of ISKCON.

Best Time To Visit Mayapur

The best time to visit Mayapur is in the winters from November to February when the temperature is pleasant. Another favourite time to visit Mayapur among tourists are the monsoons when the early showers rejuvenate the surroundings. Summer season should ideally be avoided since the temperature may rise to 30 degrees making sightseeing unbearable.

By Bus 

If you like to travel from Kolkata, the distance is 123kms.

  •  From Kolkata it takes around 3hrs 50 minutes to reach Mayapur
  • From Howarh you have to reach Esplanade, and from there you have to reach Gurusaday road, Kolkata. 
 Persons who are coming from Outside Of Westbengal or from abroad,they have to visit Gurusaday road, Kolkata to book a ticket. Isckon Bus services are available from Gurusaday Road. 
Further, you can book a ticket from Esplanade, Kolkata.WBTC bus service are available from Esplanade, Kolkata. Moreover, you can opt for Volvo bus service also. 

Fare rate ranges from Rs.110/-  to Rs.400/- if you like to travel through Bus. 


   


By Air
Nearest airport is NetajiSubhash Airport located at Dumdum.

By Railways
Nearest Station is Krishnanagar. From there take cabs or you can opt for bus services. 

Mayapur Prasadam Details
  • Menu: Kitchuri, Rice, Dal, mixed sabji, main seasonal sabji, chutny/ yogurt/papad and Sweet.
  • How: Everyday morning 6am we distribute coupon to individuals (first come to first serve basis). No advance booking.
  • Time: Full meals served at 1.00pm.
  • Where “Bhakti Vedanta Anna-Dan Complex” on the way to Mayapur Goshala, behind Govinda’s restaurant and in front of Gauranga Kutir.

Places Of Attraction

ISKCON Chandrodaya Temple

 is the global headquarters of the Krishna Consciousness movement. This temple is often referred to as the Lord’s paradise by visitors since it brings about such a healing experience for them. Green and naturally beautiful, the vast property has several places of worship dedicated to several deities that thousands of people visit each year. All the significant gods have idols established here and catch the attention of visitors with their intricate forms and designs. 

The founder of the temple, Acharya Srila Prabhupada, wanted this to be a place where people could come to observe silence and find their inner voice through peace. The site that attracts the highest number of followers is Srila Prabhupada’s Pushpa Samadhi Mandir, a shrine dedicated to the late spiritual leader. You can get Prasad of Isckon in the form of CAKES,which are very delicious. 

The marble dome glows softly under the early morning sun rays. Apart from visiting ISKCON, make sure you eat at Govinda Restaurant- a specialty of all ISKCON temples. The food is delicious and an absolute treat.

  



  


Gada Bhawan

The guest house is ten minutes walk from the temple, clean and beautiful. Lovely gardens with prettiest of flowers around. For meals, you can get coupons, simple food served while you have to sit on the ground. Many shops around the guest house, selling prasad to bag to skirts to agarbattis make the place all the more interesting. Location wise, I think this guest house is best.

Shri Chaitanya Math

Built by the Acharya of the Gaudiya Math, Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Maharaja, this math is dedicated to Radha Govinda. It comprises of four altars, all built to show reverence to the Vaishnava Acharyas, namely Sri Madhavacharya, Sri Ramanujacharya, Sri Vishnuswami, and Sri Nimbarka.

Samadhi Mandir of Srila Prabhupada:- Inside the Samadhi Mandir mobile phones, cameras or any other photographic devices are not allowed.Before entering the temple you had to submit all the things to the counters. The complex includes a grand main shrine surrounded by a museum & depicting the life of Srila Prabhupada.Inside the Samadhi Mandir of Srila Prabhupada sculpture of Abhaya Caranāravinda Bhaktivedānta Svāmi. The museum is so beautiful, you can't imagine.The Ticket to enter the museum is Rs10/- (before Covid-19)

Goshala Of Ishkon,Mayapur

ISKCON’s goshala at Mayapur is a happy home for more than 200 cows, bulls and calves. They grow up in a natural and peaceful atmosphere and are maintained nicely by a dedicated team of devotees.There are about thirty cows being milkedpresently,which yields 210 liters of milk daily. Milk is sold to the residents of Mayapur, and also used in the Deity and devotee kitchens. There are four pairs of oxen that pull various carts from Deities, to visitors, to garbage pick-up. Three sets of oxen are being trained up to plow the fields. There are about fifteen workers at the goshala and one veterinarian. 

    


The Ghee Of Iskcon is prepared from the milk of cows of hospital, which is very tasty and you can buy online from Amazon.in
