 Last week I am chatting with one of my nearby relatives regarding travelling to Jhargram in this Puja Vaccation.My nearest relative had already visited Jhargram before this Covid-19 situation. In this blog I am trying to share about my relative's personal experience. 

You might be knowing that Jhargram district is a district in the state of West Bengal, India. Popularly known for its "wooded beauty" and hill ranges of Belpahari, Kankrajhor to the north and Subarnarekha to the south. It is a destination for tourists who loves to visit ancient temples, royal palaces, and want to listen folk musics.The district has its headquarters at Jhargram.The West Midnapore Division came into existence on 29.01.1954.


CULTURE OF JHARGRAM

Jhargram is the golden treasury of tribal dances. Some of these tribal dances are on the verge of extinction. Chuang, Chang, Chou, Dangrey, Jhumur, Panta, Ranpa, Saharul, Tusu & Bhadu etc. is not only a mere experience of some masterpiece of human creative art, but a fascinating adventure through essential dimensions of a civilization.

Besides the tribal culture, the regular Bengali festivals like Durga puja, Saraswati puja, Diwali and Kali pujas are well attended. Other common pujas in the worship of Shitala, Jagaddhatri, Dol purnima, Ratha Yatra, Janmashtami, Bhima Puja, etc takes place here.

 A lot of fairs and carnivals take place in Jhargram. The famous fairs in Jhargram are Jungle Mahal Utsav, Jhargram Mela & Yuva Utsav, Rong Maati Manush, Shrabani Mela, Baishakhi Mela, Milan Mela,Boi mela,silpithirtha,dog show,sramik mela,sabala mela.

 

PLACES OF ATTRACTIONS

 Jhargram Palace

Jhargram Rajbari with all its historical glamour and royal exist even today. This Palace is more than 425 years old yet have all the modern amenities to make you feel the Royal guest of the modern era. Jhargram means the village surrounded by lush greenery and the name lives up even today. Magical forests, awesome scenic beauty and top that with experience of being Royal guest. The place now offers Homestay accommodation with uniquely decorated rooms in a blend of European and Indian themes. King size bed with the option of an extra single bed. The rooms have high ceiling and windows face to a lush garden.It offers 2 double bed rooms with a drawing room. The heritage resort comprise of fifteen twin cottages that will face two water bodies. There are thirty rooms in all, a central dining hall-cum-cafeteria, conference room, museum, open lawns, boating, and a lily pool.Food available on-premise at a reasonable price.

Chilkigarh Rajbari, Chilkigarh

Chilkigarh is generally known as a village in Jamboni CD Block in Jhargram district.It is located around 14 kms away from Jhargram.Chilkigarh is distinct its harmonious co-existance of tribal culture and Brahmin convertious . 

          

Chilkigarh Rajbari

Kanakdurga temple of Chilkigarh is the main atraction of Jhargram district. It is a favourite place for picnic too.It is a famouse tourist place in Jhargram. The temple is coverd in the west by a dence forest,in the east by Dulung river,it flows between raj palace of Chilkigarh and Kanakdurga temple.The forest is covered with medicial plant of 433 types.In Chilkigarh there grows a mixed culture of Bengal Jharkhand and Orissa.

The main history of Kanakdurga temple revolved round a dream.Devi Mahamaya came in the dream and order king Gopinath to setup a temple for her and she also described her idol.On the next morning King Gopinath found two visitors who saw the same dream at night.It was artist Jogendranath Kamiliya who transformed the dream into reality and Bramhin Ramenhandra Sarangi.Some says that Devi Kanakdsurga is Devi Chandi, She also the goddess of Power and energy.

Deer Park (Jungal Mahal zoological Park)

   


This is a small zoo and about 2 kms away from the town. This Zoological Park was opened by the state forest department. Deers, snakes, crocodiles, black rabbit, wolf, peacocks, bears, and various types of monkeys and several varieties of trees can see here. It is a good place to visit with children and family. 

    



  


Ghagra Water Falls, Belpahari

Ghagra is about 7 km north from Belpahari. It is actually a waterfall passing through a canyon of black stone. The word “Ghagra” came from the word “gagra” which means a Kalash filledup with water. Actually the shape of the canyon is like a kalash. Tharafeni dam is very closed to Ghagra.

Gopiballavpur Eco Park 
Gopiballavpur Eco Park modelled on Kolkata Eco Park. Adorned with greenery, this newly constructed park is nicely situated on the riverbank of Subarnarekha. This Park Establised on 2017. It is near about 36km from Jhargram town.

Jhilli Pakhiraloy

Do you'll need a wonderful place for picnic?  If yes , then don't west time came to Jhilli and enjoy the pleasure.From Jhargram, Hatibari is 24 kms, just 2 kms before it you have to turn left and continue 7 km in that direction to reach Jhilli.Jhilli is usually located 10 kms on concrete and village road from Kharagpur via Gopiballavpur. Jhilli is filled with enjoyment till daylight is there, as following the sun sets, the location gets fully deserted. However, persons in search for some real adventure, can stay hereJhilli takes up a new look in the evening. Inside the moonlit sky, Jhilli appears surreal. The greenery surrounding the vast waters of Jhilli is the best place for a nature lover.In this Jhilli Pakhiralay visitors can see many types of beautiful birds,especially in winter season many birds were coming from other places which are called 'Parijayi Birds'. You can go for paddle boating on the waters of Jhilli. In the evening, must you come in huge groups, can have a bonfire, sit, talk and just like the surrounding.There are bungalows and tents for tourists.Dining comes in conjunction with staying in the tent, but the expenses for food are separate.

Kankrajhor, Homestay

Kankrajhor, a combination of hills and verdant green dense forest has become very popular to the tourists who look for solitude in the midst of nature. The place offers some rare experience of walking through the wild paths amidst the forests of Shaal, Segun, Kusum, Mahua, Cashew nuts and akashmoni. 
The homestay provides a perfect bliss, a home away from home feeling whereby you wake up with the chirping of the birds, take refreshing cool air and your eyes get soothed at the lush green surrounding in every direction. However, a full moon night in the homestay in winter or spring really becomes memorable with the tribal dance performance and the mesmerizing beats of the madal resonating in the hills around.


Rohini: This is a historical village situated on the bank of Dulung River,birthplace of famous Vaishnav saint Rashikanandaji Maharaj. Now it is visiting spot.

Also there are different attractions like Medical Plants Garden (Kalaboni),Kendua (to see migrating birds) etc. 

ROUTE GUIDE TO VISIT JHARGRAM

By Airways :-

The nearest operational airport is Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport of Kolkata 155 km (by train) and 169 km (by road- NH-6).Sonari Airport of Jamshedpur is located at a distance 96 km by train. Birsa Munda Airport of Ranchi is located at a distance of 233 km (by road- NH-33) and 258 km (by train).

By Railways :-

Jhargram Railway Station is on the Kharagpur-Tatanagar section of Howrah-Nagpur-Mumbai line, an express train route. The Jhargram railway station comes under South Eastern Railway. Jhargram is well connected by train to nearest big city like Kolkata/Howrah (155 km), Kharagpur (39 km), Asansol, Tatanagar (96 km), Ranchi, Dhanbad, Rourkela, Jharsuguda, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Bhilai and also Delhi and Mumbai.

 By Roadways :-

Jhargram is also very well connected by highways it lies on AH46 which is a part of the Asian Highway Network and also with other nearby cities like Medinipur (40 km over Dherua - Medinipur Road), Kharagpur (46 km over NH-6), Durgapur (156 km over SH-9), Asansol (181 km over NH-60 and SH-9), Bankura (114 km over SH-9 and 5), Purulia (142 km over SH-5), Haldia (150 km over AH46 and NH41), Contai (144 km over SH-5), Digha (165 km over NH-60), Kolkata/Howrah (169 km over AH46), Tatanagar (114 km over NH-33), Baripada (99 km over AH46 and NH-5),etc.
